To carry out the researches on surveillance of indoor and outdoor environmental air pollutants, assessment of population exposure and health effects, to study and popularize new technologies and methods for the surveillance of air pollutants, to implement effect evaluation study of air pollution individual protective appliances and air purification products, to formulate and revise air-related sanitation and to undertake the provision of technical guidance and evaluation regarding air quality and sanitary guarantee for major activities and important departments.

The research subjects, including the Technical Study on the Population Health Hazard Control of Key Indoor Air Pollutants and Investigation Into the Impact of Residential Environment Surveillance on Human Health undertaken by NIEH, won the first and second Science and Technology Award granted by the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association respectively.

In 2015, the Air Pollution of Haze and Health Surveillance Project had a total of 106 monitoring sites and a coverage of 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions throughout the country.
