To carry out the applied researches on environmental epidemiological methods and technologies, implements epidemiological investigation and research on environment-related diseases, launches investigation and analysis of human exposure to environmental pollution, develops studies on intervention measures for environmental harmful factors on population health and participate in the emergent intervention of environmental pollution incidents.

The national human body biological surveillance project aims to conduct periodic population field epidemiological investigation and surveillance of environmental pollutants in human biological organs within the scope of nationally-representative sampling population, assesses the baseline levels and trends of environmental pollutants in the general population of China, probes biological markers and examination methods for human exposure to environmental pollutants and sets up the environment and health biological sample database that covers the whole population.
